電話が鳴ってる!どうしよう・・・
英語でやり取りをする職場で電話が鳴ると、緊張しますよね。
僕も新入社員の頃はドイツ人の英語が聞き取りずらいこともあって、電話をとるのが本当に恐怖でした。
せめて電話を受けるときの基本的な表現はおさえておいて、頭が真っ白になっても対応できるようにしておきたいものです。
この記事では、電話を受ける場面に特化した使えるビジネス英語の表現をご紹介します。

会社名をしっかりと伝える
日本語だと「〇〇株式会社です」というのと同じですね。元気よく出ましょう。

電話を誰かにつなぐとき

重要表現:put~through
誰かにつないでほしいと言われたときに、「ただいまつなぎますので少々お待ちください」といった感じの表現ですね。
Just putting you through now.
I’ll transfer you now.
Could you hold on for a minute? I’ll put you through to Mr.Mike.

電話をつなぐことができないとき

依頼された人に電話をつなぐことができない場合は、理由と一緒にその旨を伝えましょう。
他の電話に出ているとき
I‘m afraid she‘s on another line.
不在(他の電話に出ている・外出・打合せ など)
She‘s not at her desk right now.
I‘m sorry, she‘s in a meeting today.
I’m afraid he’s at lunch.
I’m afraid Mr.Tom is out of the office at the moment.
I’m afraid he’s on a business trip until the 12th.
伝言を伝える・折り返しする

ききとれなかったとき

繰り返しを依頼する

声の大きさ・速さの変更を依頼する
I‘m sorry, I don‘t understand. Could you speak more slowly, please?

電話では素早い対応が必要になるので、なかなか例文を見ながらというのも難しいですよね。
